South Vermillion Community School

Scheduled and Snow eLearning days approved for SV

November 28 is our next eLearning Day
Posted on 09/19/2018

The next scheduled eLearning day for South Vermillion Schools will be on Wednesday, November 28. Students will not report to school, but staff will be in attendance. Teachers will be available from 8-10am for office hours and will respond to phone calls and emails to assist students and parents. After 10 am, teachers will be attending professional development until 3:20, but will be able to respond to emails if they have availability.

Students should expect 20-30 minutes of instruction and assignments per subject, while elementary students will receive instruction and assignments for the same amount of time in math and language arts and their special for the day. Student instruction will be delivered via Canvas, South Vermillion’s learning management system, for all grades. This eLearning day will be the first time that kindergarten and first grade students will take home iPads for an eLearning day.

Middle and high school students will take attendance by completing a quiz in their first period course in Canvas between 8:20am and 3:20pm. If students aren’t able to access the quiz, they are encouraged to contact their first period teacher, or eLearning tech support in order to be counted present. Elementary students are counted “present” by completing their work by Friday afternoon.

Students who do not have Internet access at home can go to any of our local businesses or the Clinton Public Library for wifi. Students K-12 will have until Friday afternoon to complete and turn in all work.

If any student or parent has a question or needs technical support, the eLearning support number is (765)832-5330 or via email at eLearning@svcs.k12.in.us. Support will be available from 9am until 6pm. Specific questions regarding assignments should be directed to teachers, but if students experience any technical issues, they are encouraged to contact eLearning support.

South Vermillion Schools is implementing three scheduled eLearning days to help better prepare staff, students, and parents for inclement weather eLearning days. By using eLearning days, our schools will be able to reduce the number of makeup days by allowing students to complete work from home. More information will be shared with the community regarding inclement weather days late October or early November.

Please visit our eLearning Page for more information.

The South Vermillion Board approved 3 scheduled eLearning days to be included for the 2018-19 school year. SV will also be planning to use eLearning days in place of snow days.
