South Vermillion Community School Corporation will be closed on Tuesday, November 19th in support of “Red for Ed Action Day”. We will make up this instructional day on Monday, February 17, 2020 (Presidents’ Day), pending board approval on November 14th. All extracurricular activities will proceed as scheduled on November 19th.

South Vermillion educators will unite with supporters of public education from across the state to participate in the “Red for Ed Action Day” at the Indiana Statehouse to advocate for the future of public education. Inadequate funding and resources, over-emphasis on high-stakes testing, and teacher shortages have no doubt had a negative impact on the learning environment in public schools.

Superintendent Dave Chapman stated, “Please know that I fully support the teachers in this event. We also have an obligation to the students and having 54 classroom teachers requesting leave days on the 19th and only being able to fill less than half of those, we felt it was not in the best interest to conduct school without being able to provide quality instruction, adequate supervision and maintain a level of school safety we feel comfortable with.”

South Vermillion Schools sincerely values your continued support of our students, our educators, and our schools.
