Parent Canvas

How do I get signed up to use Canvas?
You will need to obtain a pairing code to signup. Your student(s) can get this by logging into the Canvas website (not the app). Here is a link to a document. You can also contact SV Canvas support for assistance. 

How do I get text notifications?
Once you create your parent account, you will need to set your Notification Preferences and add your cellphone(s). This Text Alerts will walk you through the process.

How do I cross-list courses?

How do I de-cross courses?
Contact SV Canvas support with course specifics. Which course are other courses crossed into and which need to be de-crossed.

I have a new student in my class, how do I add him/her?
Students are automatically synced into Canvas from Harmony to Clever to Canvas. Elementary teachers have to add students to gradebooks in order for courses to show. 

I can't find one of my courses when I open Canvas.
Go to Courses, "All Courses". From here you can click on the star next to courses you want to see on the dashboard, and remove stars for those you don't wish to see. At any time you can come to "All Courses" to modify or open.

How often do I need to use Canvas?
Teachers should be exposing students to Canvas on a regular basis so they are familiar. Please see Expectations Checklist on how to organize your course. These are our goals for the 2019-2020 school year and we are still working on polishing this checklist. At the very minimum, students should be accessing Canvas at least once per week. 

Can I use a different LMS or online classroom portal?
Canvas is the Learning Management System for SV Schools. The expectation is that all teachers are using Canvas for consistency. The only exception would be WRCTE teachers as other schools are still using Google Classroom.
