As state legislation continues to change, and education options continue to evolve, SVCS is committed to staying ahead of the curve by following our financial and programming vision.

Key Focus Areas

How School Funding Works

Education Fund (0101)

The Education Fund is funded by state-level taxes. The legislature determines the dollar amount associated with each enrolled student. For example, in July, 2026, SVCS received $7,750.16 per student. This fund pays for instructional salaries and benefits, supplies, curriculum, and other tuition-related expenses.

Debt Service Fund (0200)

The Debt Service Fund is funded by local property taxes and other miscellaneous local taxes. For example, in 2026, the rate for the corporation was $.3288. This rate is calculated based on the certified assessed value for the taxpayers within the school district's boundary lines. This fund pays for the "loans" and/or "leases" of the school corporation.

Operations Fund (0300)

The Operations Fund, like the Debt Service Fund, is also funded by local property taxes and other local miscellaneous taxes. For example, the 2026 rate was $0.634 for our corporation. This fund pays for all of our utilities, school resource officers, custodians, maintenance, equipment, some corporation-wide administrators, and insurance for the corporation.

Comparing SVCS to Other Corporations

SVCS is not alone in facing the financial changes of recent years. Instead of dwelling on the challenges or expressing frustration over evolving funding structures, we have focused on finding ways to improve. Our guiding question has been, “How can we be better?” That mindset has helped us remain proactive, adaptable, and committed to excellence.
